Telling a County’s Stories with Chris Paulson – 9-13-14

September 14, 2014

Every city has a history filled with stories about the people and events that helped to build it.  Telling those stories helps to inform present decision-making, and brings together it’s residents, but it takes a lot of data-gathering and storytelling to capture it all and retell it in a compelling way.

Christopher PaulsonThe Racine Heritage Museum, located in Downtown Racine, WI, is dedicated to preserving the material culture and telling the special stories of the people of Racine County; their achievements, diversity, inventive genius, productivity, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial spirit.  Our guest will be Christopher Paulson, Executive Director of the Racine Heritage Museum.

Chris was born in Milwaukee and has lived in Racine since 1976.  He graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine and studied anthropology and museum studies at UW-Parkside and the University of Oklahoma. Chris started at the Racine Heritage Museum in 1989 as a student intern and has been Executive Director since 1999.

The “Science” of Story with Jill Pollack – 8-30-14

September 1, 2014

There is a “science” to researching, constructing and telling a story to move an audience.  If done properly, the story can be engaging and memorable, but if done poorly, the storyteller can be forgettable, or worse, dismissed.  This week’s guest will help us understand how stories are received in our brains and bodies, and how we can take this into consideration when designing a story.  Join us to hear how you can design the perfect story to achieve your mission.
