March 16, 2015
Many parents juggle the demands of their work and their children’s activities, and it can lead to a fast-paced, often chaotic, daily schedule. This can be an even bigger challenge for single parents whose work requires them to travel around the country. After the tragic death of his wife when his daughter was just 7 months old, our guest this week has spent the last 18 years raising her, while balancing his career as a flight attendant. In the process, he has traveled the country coaching and cheering his daughter on to be a starting player in a Division 1 women’s basketball program. Join us to hear his inspiring story.
Shawn Ortiz has worked as a flight attendant for American Airlines for 27 years. He is a native of Racine, Wisconsin and is father to his daughter Gabbi and stepson Taylor.
He has followed his daughter Gabrielle across the country to coach and watch her play basketball for the last 15 years. Gabbi was recently named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year for her outstanding season as a member of the Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball team.
