Lessons from Those Experiencing Homelessness with Kevin Cookman – 10-17-15

We have all seen or walked past individuals who are homeless or living on the streets. It is common to feel compassion for their situation, and to wonder what life circumstances brought them to this place. But have you ever considered what there might be for us to learn about ourselves from the homeless? Our guest this week works closely with the homeless population in his town and will share what he has learned about himself, and what there is for us to learn, from these individuals.
Kevin Cookman is currently living and working in Racine, WI USA where he is the Executive Director of the Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization (HALO) a program to help individuals and families experiencing homelessness resolve the issues that lead to their becoming homeless. Kevin is also the President of A Full Life, Inc. and a Trustee for A Full Life (UK Trust) an organization creating financially self-sustaining transition homes for adult orphans in developing countries.
Kevin ‘s past career adventures include being the Managing Director of The Chalfont Project, and the Regional Director of the Knowledge and Innovation Management Professional Society (KMPro) in Europe, based in London. Before that Kevin spent two years as the Vice-President of Program Management for marchFIRST Europe, based in their London office.
From 1992 to 2000 Kevin was based in Shanghai, PR China. In 1992 he founded and became General Manager of the Shanghai In Dex Computer Company. The company was sold in 1998 with three offices in Shanghai, Bejing and Guangzhou and 250 employees. The buyer, Zhaodaola Internet services required Kevin to stay on for two years as their Chief Operating Officer as part of the transfer.
Previous to his overseas adventures Kevin had worked for Intel as their technical liaison to GE Medical Systems, Marquette Electronics and Quad Graphics in Wisconsin.
Kevin has an MBA from the Krannert School of Management, Purdue University and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.
